5 Facebook Marketing Myths

There are plenty of misconceptions related to Facebook and using it for business. If you are using Facebook to market your business, then you probably are operating under some of these misconceptions. So, we are going to debunk 5 Facebook marketing myths. This will help you be more effective when using Facebook to market your business.

Myth 1 – There is a best time to post on Facebook.
I have read and I am sure you have too that in general there are best times to be posting. As an example, between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. And on Saturday and Sunday between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m or 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays are optimal posting times for Facebook. I guess Tuesday is not a good day to post at all as it is not really mentioned. Just do a google search and you will find a wide variety of answers to this question.
The best time(s) to post is when your page gets the best engagement. You can use the insights as a guide to what might be good times to post. So, you will need to experiment to determine what works for your page. Bear in mind that once you determine what are the best times for you page it will change so if you see engagement decrease you will need to determine another time schedule.

Myth 2 – Syncing Facebook posts to auto post to other platforms is effective.
While this is tempting, it really is not effective at all. Nobody wants to see the same content on all your platforms. Your target audience across the platforms you are using wants to see different content. What works on Facebook may not work on Twitter or Instagram. The effective times for each platform also vary.

Myth 3 – Hashtags on Facebook are effective.
Hashtags do not work on Facebook at all. They are totally effective and may even annoy your audience. Chances are they will find it annoying. It also detracts from the message of your post as that is what they will notice first. They will zone in on the hashtags and keep on scrolling. So, if you are using them, Stop!

Myth 4 – Facebook cuts the organic reach of your posts so you will pay for advertising.
Many of you probably think this but that is not the case. To Facebook it is all about the user experience as that is who their customer is. While the advertisers are the source of their monies, without the end user, the people on Facebook, there would be no Facebook. Therefore, they are cautious about spam. Nobody likes it. I recently read this is what happened to Myspace. It got full of spam so the end users all left. Yes, Myspace is still alive and is music, musicians, musical artists orientated now.

Myth 5 – One should post multiple times a day.
I read that pages should post 5-10 times a day. There are pages that do post that many times a day and gets engagement on every post. If you are posting 5 times a day and not getting engagement you need to rethink your strategy. If you are posting 8 times a day and getting engagement each post, then continue to do so. If you have a small number of followers posting too often may cause them to unlike your page, hide your posts or unfollow your page. To be effective it is more about quality than quantity.
